I like the Maple Leafs.

I mean I always liked the Maple Leafs, but the individuals that make up this team at all levels are just.. so.... likable.

Remember when they lost 7-2 to Florida and the coach sucked, D was in shambles, and the goalie was the same as Reimer and Berns? That was 10 days ago

Have to agree that Babcock is coach of the year. Hard to imagine that he's never won it. It is also interesting, that in a profession that has a very limited shelf life, he's never been fired. I was expecting this team to be competing for a wild card, unlike most of my Leafy friends, the team has overacheived. I would like to see the Leafs win a round. If they beat Ottawa, great, if they beat the Habs, I'll do a jig. The last four games looks challenging, however, they have been very consistent lately and have had the good fortune to be injury free for the most part.

The last 4 games are at home and Washington and Pittsburgh don't have fantastic away records. They could easily go 2-2 or better.

He's quietly had a very good season. In my view, Matthews gets so much attention from other teams, that it relieves some of the pressure. Moreover, he's been guided to go up against top scoring lines, in a defensive role, those lines are not always the top defensive units of opposing teams. Good on him and good on Babcock. His contract is looking like a good deal at this point, see Kopitar ($10 mil - forever and 11 goals ) Also good on Babcock for bringing him around.

Leaguewide standings last season to now:

Toronto went from 30th to 15th

CBJ went from 27th to 4th

Calgary went from 26th to 12th

Edmonton went from 29th to 11th

Montreal went from 22nd to 8th

huge accomplishment for these teams and their coaches

Better to get as many points over the weaker opponents now to try and get as much separation as possible while not relying on needing points out of those games against big guns.
